Jeremiah 33:14-17, 24-26 lays out the promises God has made with respect to Israel and Judah:
- He will do all the good that he has promised them;
- He will bring the “true Son of David” to the throne, and he will rule justly;
- In that day, the people of Judah and Jerusalem shall live in safety;
- Their motto will be “The Lord is our righteousness!”
- David shall forever after have an heir sitting on the throne of Israel.
- People are wrongly saying that the Lord has abandoned Judah and Israel;
- They are sneering, saying Israel is not worthy to be counted as a nation.
- The Lord says he will never abandon the Jews or David his servant;
- The Lord will never change the plan that a Child of David will someday rule the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
- The Lord will restore their prosperity and have mercy on them.
Who is the “true Son of David?” Who is the “Child” of David? It is Jesus the Messiah, the soon and coming King!
Many rant and scheme against the Jews, constantly crying out to the world that they will wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Recently, as a sign of the times, voters in districts in two of the United States each elected a Muslim woman to serve in the 2019 Congress, women who prior to the November 2018 election denied but after their victories vocalized their support of the goal to destroy Israel.
Antisemitism remains on the rise around the world, even recently reared its demonic head in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, killing many and injuring many more. Can a House divided survive when it comprises God’s people, especially including Jews, and those who would destroy them?
Yet, despite all appearances to the contrary, Proverbs 21:30 makes it plain “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD.”
As it is written, and so it shall be that the Lord will never change the plans that he has made regarding the Messiah, his Child, the Son of David – the Son of God, the Son of Man – who will rule and reign in Jerusalem, and bring peace and prosperity to his people, Israel, and to all who in steadfast faith and endurance wait for him.
